Dr. Nicholas Abidi Performs World’s First PEKK INBONE Matched Talus with Subtalar Fusion

Golden State Orthopedics & Spine is proud to announce that Dr. Nicholas Abidi has successfully performed the PEKK INBONE matched talus replacement with associated subtalar fusion. This groundbreaking procedure utilized a customized PEKK implant, designed to precisely match the patient’s anatomy and restore function after severe talar collapse.

The process began with obtaining detailed preoperative CT scans of the patient’s ankle, which were utilized to create a precise 3D model of the talus. This model guided the fabrication of the patient-specific implant, ensuring an optimal fit and alignment.

While PEKK was selected for this particular case due to its favorable properties, it’s noteworthy that cobalt-chrome alloy is also a viable material option for talar implants. Cobalt-chrome implants have been used in similar procedures, offering durability and biocompatibility.

By integrating advanced imaging techniques with cutting-edge materials, Dr. Abidi’s approach not only preserves joint mechanics but also provides a durable, biologically compatible solution for complex ankle reconstructions. The addition of subtalar fusion enhances stability, optimizing long-term outcomes for the patient.

This milestone underscores GSOS’s commitment to leading-edge orthopedic advancements, offering patients access to pioneering treatments that redefine mobility and quality of life.
